The University has a wide variety of on campus accommodation available to new and existing students. All flats at the University halls are self-catering and are either owned or leased by us. They are modern, comfortable, and well equipped with free internet and WiFi access, study space, storage and either a washbasin or an ensuite facility.
There are also flats adapted for students with disabilities or medical conditions. Our standard flats feature four, five or six bedrooms with a shared kitchen and bathroom or the en-suite flats have four to seven bedrooms each with a personal shower room and shared kitchen/lounge facilities. We have a small number of self-contained one and two bedroom flats.
The University has spent the summer upgrading 50 flats in its Whitendale residences. The aim was to create a kitchen and social lounge area for students to relax after classes and spend time with friends. To do this the Capital Projects team have removed a bedroom, taking the flat from a five bedroom, to a four bedroom and creating the lounge area. In doing this, the team have also been able to reconfigure the flats, adding a new separate shower room and additional toilet facility.
The refurbishment includes a flat screen television in the lounge, USB ports added to the plug sockets and new flooring, LED lighting and paintwork throughout the common areas. The work has given the flats a fresh and modern feel and have been received with great enthusiasm from prospective students during open days.
The University has worked in conjunction with Eric Wright Construction to complete the refurbishment for the beginning of the 2017/18 academic year.
